Joining the Immaculate Conception High School’s Cross Country team is a healthy way to work with others while motivating each other to succeed. Cross country provides a world-class workout and a convenient way to stay in shape. Aside from the health benefits, it can also boost confidence, relieve stress, and give student-athletes a sense of teamwork and personal accomplishment. Within a few minutes of running, the brain begins to release endorphins that naturally improve mood, leaving runners energized and happier. The Blue Wolves believe that while the sport can be challenging at times, the health and mental benefits are worth the training.
The Blue Wolves had an exciting season led by senior Captain and salutatorian, Danielle Sancilio. During the ICHS Cross Country season, we spent our practices and meets running at Garrett Mountain, a challenging yet beautiful course. This course is located twenty minutes from the ICHS campus and gives us the opportunity to take advantage of training on a weekly basis.
Running is a disciplined sport that translates into the real world. Our Blue Wolves athletes are successful not only on the trail, but in the classroom and in all aspects of life. Anyone can be successful in cross country no matter their athletic background. For upperclassman the course runs 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). For incoming freshman there are shorter courses. With course options of 1.7 miles and 2 miles available, it gives the athlete an opportunity to transition into the sport.
