The Girls Basketball program at Immaculate Conception has had much success in North Jersey Girls High School Basketball over the previous decade. While concentrating on practicing hard and team chemistry, as some of our focus points, the foundation of our program is integrity. Many of our former student athletes have gone in to continue their athletic career at the collegiate level. We look forward to continuing that tradition in the future.
Our first goal as a program is to make sure we properly represent our school on and off the court. We maintain a high level of sportsmanship, while competing to win each game. We plan to create an instructive, hardworking, fun environment that encourages all players of all levels with an interest in basketball to join our program.
Each year we are set to face off against some of Bergen County’s top programs. For the next two seasons our Girls Basketball team will be a part of the NJIC Meadowlands League, while still playing some high-level independent games. We look forward to the 2022-2023 season and all our newcomers!
Basketball at Immaculate Conception High School
from a student-athlete’s perspective.
Joining the basketball team at Immaculate Conception High School has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have played basketball since first grade and my freshman year, I decided to just focus on soccer. I missed the sport tremendously, so my sophomore year I decided to play again. It has taught me many valuable lessons and it has given me friends that will last a lifetime. There are numerous things I love and admire about this program that has helped shape me into the young woman I am today.
One of my favorite aspects about playing basketball at IC is the lessons it has taught me about work rate. There have been many times at practice and games where my body was telling me to give up. However, I learned the immense power my mind has. If I truly push myself I can go to my limits and beyond. This is a lesson I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life. I have also learned how to lose gracefully. Winning is amazing, but as we all know, it is not always the result. Even though I believe I already possessed this quality, IC basketball has helped enhance my good sportsmanship. Even though my team and I are all extremely passionate about winning in the game of the sport we love, we realize it is not everything. It gives us an opportunity to come out even stronger and practice even harder.
Another aspect I love about being on the basketball team are the phenomenal coaches and teammates. Coach Jio, Coach Jayon, and Coach Francesca care about each one of us on the team. Whether we are a star player or not, they truly make it their goal for all of us to improve. I believe this is an essential thing that sets us apart from some other schools. The coaches are not afraid to give us constructive criticism, but they do it in a way that is not self-degrading. They push all of us to be the best we can be and offer us insightful strategies that help us throughout the games. They even offer optional practices on Sundays for us to improve certain skills. This further proves their complete dedication to the sport and to helping us in all areas. My teammates are my family. We lose together and we win together. Everyone is uplifting towards one another and encouraging each other when we need it. I am extremely proud to be a captain and a leader on this amazing team!
