Health and Wellness
9th Grade: Health I:
Health I a semester course that will guide students through the many dimensions of health and wellness. This course provides the foundation for an individual to learn the skills needed to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Students will develop the knowledge to understand the foundations of health and wellness; learn the skills needed to enhance their mental/emotional health in a safe and positive manner; acquire the basic knowledge of nutrition; and become aware of the risk factors that alcohol, drug, and tobacco abuse can have on them as an individual.
10th Grade: Driver Education:
The purpose of Drivers’ Education is to prepare students with the knowledge to become a safe and responsible driver in addition to providing them the information needed to pass the Motor Vehicle knowledge test.
11th Grade: First Aid/CPR:
The purpose of First Aid/CPR is to prepare students with knowledge, skill, and techniques necessary to recognize and provide care in first aid, respiratory, and cardiac emergencies, using the most current CPR and cardiac care guidelines.
12th Grade: Health II/Life Skills:
Health II is a semester course that will guide students through the many dimensions of wellness. Students will develop skills needed in confronting difficult situations; understand health prevention and promotion techniques that will establish a solid personal health education; and become health literate in making positive and healthy decisions.
All High School Physical Education courses focus on all areas of physical development and fitness. Each class period will require student participation, sportsmanship, and respect while learning and performing various skills. The principles of lifetime fitness will also be incorporated into each lesson.
