Being in such close proximity to New York City, one of the most eclectic and exciting art-scenes in the world, this was a perfect opportunity for the art students to truly experience the art process. Utilizing this opportunity to explore the art galleries of Chelsea gave our students a chance to really see what art is like, other than in school. For many of them this was their first time seeing contemporary art outside of a textbook or phone screen and getting to experience/feel the presence of a work of art right in front of them. During our trip we saw anything from monolithic sculptures to immersive video art and everything in between. “There are so many galleries exhibiting incredibly diverse artists that an experience like this forces new viewers to broaden their horizons on what 'art' really can be on both a social and personal level." shared Michael Barreto, ICHS Art Teacher.
