On Tuesday, May 12th, from 10-10:45am, Immaculate Conception High School hosted its first Virtual College Visit with five different colleges and universities! Grades 9-11 were asked to participate in this event to learn more about a specific college and to meet face to face with a college representative. This event was optional for Freshmen and Sophomores; however, it was highly encouraged for them to attend. This event was mandatory for the Juniors, as we hoped this can help them figure out their right fit when applying to colleges. Students had the opportunity to visit with one of these schools: Berkeley College, Dominican College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Immaculata University, and New Jersey City University.
Our wonderful faculty and administrators helped to moderate this advisory period, alongside their respective college representative. During their “visit”, college representatives went over many fun facts about their schools: Location, Application Process, Scholarship Opportunities, Majors, Campus Activities/Sports, and so much more. Students were not shy when it came to asking their college representatives questions, which was amazing to see students taking this very seriously!
Mrs. Jessica Cutrona, Associate Head of School and Dean of Student Life, shared, “Students took advantage of this opportunity and walked away from their session with more knowledge about their college. We received some great feedback from our students and hope to host another virtual College Advisory Session in the near future!”
Miss Kelly Koval, Dean of Academics, exclaimed, “I hope that this virtual college visit helped ease the minds of our students on what to expect on the college progress, and I hope this shed some light on things that they may want in a college experience, as well!”
Sierra Nicholais `21 added, “I really enjoyed learning about the various opportunities that Fairleigh Dickinson University offers such as studying abroad and internships. I really liked how Miss Alexa Perez, FDU’s representative, covered every topic about the college and how she could go into detail about the questions that were asked.”
Rylie Klain `21 said, “The college session was interesting. The college representative was helpful and knowledgeable when answering all of our questions about campus life and specific majors. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to attend this session and would really encourage others to attend in the future.
Dr. Sonaliz Morel-Baker, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement stated, “I enjoyed participating in the College Advisory Session with New Jersey City University. This event was designed to provide our students with all the information they want and need to know about college. Their questions about scholarships, college applications, financial aid, tuition, and choosing their major were answered. I truly believe that our students found this session insightful and resourceful!”
Miss Rebecca Manzano, ICHS Guidance Counselor concluded with the following words, “I believe our first College Advisory Period was a complete SUCCESS!! I was so happy to see how attentive the students were during our college advisory period with Dominican College. The girls were giving the college rep their undivided attention and asked some excellent questions! My group consisted of all Juniors, so I know these girls are already starting to plan their future paths and goals.
