To celebrate inclusion, diversity, and different cultures around the world, ICHS students decorated the first-floor hallway. Each class selected a section of the hallway and the students “traveled” through four different countries at once. The Seniors celebrated America, the Juniors celebrated Mexico, the Sophomores celebrated Italy and the Freshmen celebrated France.
Additionally, Student Council successfully ran a coat and blanket drive to support The Mercy House of Newark. ICHS collected all new and gently used items throughout the end of January. During Sprit Week, specifically Tuesday, January 28, 2020, we hosted a “Day of Donating” as part of our activities. Students were asked to bring in coats and blankets to receive points towards the Spirit Week competition. Additionally, we also had a $3.00 dress down day in class colors to support our “Adopt A Family” in the Bahamas and raised over $400.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, ICHS held its Catholic Schools Week Mass and International Day Potluck! At our beautiful mass we celebrated Mr. Joseph R. Azzolino for his 25 years of service. Sister Alexander Siegel, Mission Leader/Campus Minister presented Mr. Azzolino with a statue of The Immaculate Conception Blessed Virgin Mary. It is difficult to fully express the gratitude everyone at Immaculate Conception High School has for the incredible dedication and loyalty that Mr. Azzolino has to ICHS at large. Mr. Azzolino first came to ICHS in September of 1995. He was born and raised in Lodi, and it was fitting for him to begin his teaching career in his hometown. After only two years in the classroom, his administrative career was launched. He served different roles including- the Vice Principal, Business Administrator, the Head Basketball Coach, the Head Softball Coach, Principal, President and Head of School-just to name a few. According to Mr. Azzolino, “Working at ICHS afforded me the opportunity to strengthen my Catholic beliefs as well as get a better understanding of the ultimate mission of the Felician Sisters which was and still is “To cooperate with Christ in the Spiritual renewal of the world.”
Following the special mass, ICHS underclassmen and upperclassmen thoroughly enjoyed connecting with one another over food at the International Potluck. Mrs. Olivia Grabowski and Ms. Tara Connor, English Teachers and Student Council Co-Advisors added, “Our International Potluck was fun and brought people together, one dish at a time.”
To close out our fun-filled week, we had a phenomenal ICHS Talent Show, celebrated our Blue Wolf Award Recipients-Jenna Fillieri, `23, Madison Newell, `22, Megan Fox `21, Gabriella Gil, `20 and Mr. Michael Wada, Information Technology Coordinator and Director of Performing Arts, and congratulated the Senior Class on winning this year's hallway decorating contest! The class of 2020 worked together on their theme of "America" and found the true spirit of ICHS in their creativity and friendship!
