It was a very special morning on Friday, December 6, 2019, as we celebrated Junior Ring Day, for the Class of 2021, organized by Sister Alexander Siegel, Mission Leader/Campus Minister, and Miss Nicole Mineo, Junior Class Advisor.
This year, we were blessed to have Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., as both the Celebrant and Homilist, of the mass and ceremony. This is the first time in 25 years there was a Cardinal here to present and bless the rings on Junior Ring Day.
Cardinal Tobin shared with the girls how honored he felt to be invited to celebrate and share this memory with them, as this is a very special moment in their high school career. He also shared how he hopes to come back to ICHS someday soon and see them as leaders of the world. The girls beamed back at Cardinal Tobin with sparkle in their eyes, as they felt truly blessed to have him as such a prominent part of their special day.
Cardinal Tobin blessed and presented the rings to the 36 young ladies of the Junior class. In addition, there were a group of mothers and sisters, all alumnae of ICHS, who presented rings to their relative, alongside of Cardinal Tobin. Joseph R. Azzolino, Head of School, exclaimed, “Cardinal Joseph Tobin, for someone who has such a prominent role in the Catholic Church, was so humbled as he celebrated one of the most important masses at Immaculate Conception High School, as it always coincides with our Feast Day, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.”
Mr. Azzolino ended the ceremony by thanking Cardinal Tobin for taking time out of his day to present and bless the rings. Isabella Percontino ’21 and Patricia Orbe ’21, both the President and Vice President of the Junior class, presented Cardinal Tobin with a small token of appreciation, ICHS spirit wear and a warm ICHS blanket for the cold winter season.
Miss Nicole Mineo added, “The Junior class was elated to have Cardinal Tobin as the Celebrant and Homilist of their Junior Ring Day mass. The ring and pin they received symbolizes the Christian values, sisterhood, loyalty and love of ICHS.”
The ceremony was followed by a beautiful reception for the parents and members of the Class of 2021 in the school cafeteria, organized by Joann DePeri Beatrice ’79 and the ICHS Parent Association. The cafeteria was filled with delicious refreshments, warm smiles and laughter from the members of the Class of 2021 and their families.
We congratulate the young ladies of the Class of 2021 on their Junior Ring Day. May they always remember this treasured memory of their high school journey. Also, may they always look at their ring as a symbol of their four years at ICHS and remember the blessings they received from Cardinal Tobin on their Junior Ring Day.
On behalf of all the members of the ICHS community, we thank Cardinal Tobin for celebrating with us!
