Starting bright and early at 8:00 AM, the main foyer was packed with parents and their daughters eager to check in for a day full of enrichment with our faculty, staff and student ambassadors. Our first annual Blue Wolf Exploration Day, hosted on Monday, October 14, 2019 for 4th – 8th graders was truly a hit, with over 103 registrants and 88 attendees, who were smiling from ear to ear all day long. The prospective students had the chance to learn and gain enrichment in STEM, Religion, English, Math, History, Physical Education, and World Languages. The classrooms were full of energy, creativity, and young Blue Wolves enjoying their day at ICHS with the Student Ambassadors. The faculty, throughout the month of September, collaborated to create diverse and innovative lesson plans for the visitors.

Miss Nicole Mineo, Coordinator of Enrollment Management, and the mastermind behind the Blue Wolf Exploration Day stated, “This idea came to me because in prior years, we always had a lot of visitors on Columbus Day. Since many grammar schools are closed for the holiday, this would be a great opportunity to plan a whole day of enrichment for prospective students to visit, learn, and most of all, have fun with our ambassadors on Columbus Day – giving them a chance to explore ICHS!”

Miss Kelly Koval, Dean of Academics, guided the day, as well, as she was seen smiling and greeting students in the hallways as they changed classes. Ms. Koval exclaimed, “Our first ever Blue Wolf Exploration was a HUGE success at ICHS!  It was a learning experience for our current students who served as ambassadors for the day, our amazing visitors in grades 4-8, and especially our vibrant faculty and staff.  The day was filled with cross-curricular, hands-on, interactive lessons that will never be forgotten.  This unforgettable experience showed those on the outside that IC is truly the BEST place to be!”

Dr. Sonaliz Morel-Baker added, “I am elated to see the 2019-2024 Strategic Plan goals manifesting throughout our work. Miss Mineo, the pioneer and creator of the Blue Wolf Exploration Day, did a fantastic job developing an innovative and unique marketing strategy, that included rich learning experiences, for all of our visitors. ”

The day ended in the auditorium as everyone joined in singing and dancing with Mr. Wada, Director of Performing Arts, and of course, Paws, the Blue Wolf! One parent joyfully told us at the end of the day, “My daughter had an amazing day! She told me she wishes she can skip 8th grade and go directly to ICHS!”
